  • Describe the rationale for this change request:*
The addition of an academic plan like the BM in Composition is a necessary component of a comprehensive School of Music and will better align UNR with R1 nationally ranked peers, to include members of AAU. Each year when visiting Nevada schools and recruitment fairs, the School of Music receives multiple inquiries from potential students regarding a BM in Composition program. Until now, we have had to explain to them that we don’t offer such a program, but they could attend UNR in some other major than composition. (Illustrative of this demand, a faculty member in composition has maintained enrollment of 12-16 credit hours of composition lessons each semester over the past several years for these students.) This degree will allow us to provide a comprehensive education in music composition using existing human resources which was not previously possible.
